Last minute Easter holiday ideas

Whisk the family away on an Easter break

Whether you’re looking for a last-minute holiday cottage break with the family or a couple’s retreat away from it all, here is our pick of the best Easter late deals:

Family fun in Scotland:
Luxury Scottish resort Cameron House on Loch Lomond is offering the ideal family break with a host of fun children’s activities from arts and crafts to baking, to inspire budding sports stars, chefs and artists. What’s more, while the little ones are wearing themselves out, parents can relax and take in the beauty of the Scottish surroundings.

To take a break from all of the activities, families can enjoy Easter Sunday lunch in the Cameron Grill, famed for its selection of Aberdeen Angus beef, including an indulgent Chocoholic’s Dessert Buffet. For some post lunch family bonding, Cameron House will also be hosting a Golden Egg Hunt, in which the winner will receive a complimentary week’s stay at one of Cameron House’s luxury lodges for two adults and two children!

The deal: Three nights B&B includes Cameron house chocolate Easter eggs on arrival, springtime champagne cruise on the Celtic warrior and a Chocoholic Easter Sunday lunch in the Cameron Grill from £290 per room, per night. Visit www.cameronhouse.co.uk.

Quirky Easter in a floating hotel, Sweden:
Easter in Sweden means Easter witches, egg hunts and bonfires on the archipelago, followed by a typical Swedish Easter meal of pickled herring, cured salmon and spiced schnapps.

Celebrate it at the quirky floating hotel and restaurant, Salt & Sill, set in Klädesholmen on Tjörn Island (an hour’s drive north of Gothenburg). The hotel consists of six accommodation modules, has a total of 23 rooms and 48 beds, and is built on floating pontoons that will be moored alongside Salt & Sill on Klädesholmen. Not only that, the hotel has its own floating sauna!

The deal: One nights’ B&B with a five-course dinner, coffee and cake buffet, sauna and egg painting costs £146 per person (two sharing). Stay an additional night for £66 per person. Call 00 46 304 67 34 80 or visit www.saltosill.se.

Couples retreat at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa, Wales:
Escape the hustle and bustle of daily life on a relaxing break at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa, Wales, idyllically placed overlooking Lake Vyrnwy and surrounded by mountains in mid-Wales. The hotel’s Easter package includes a special spring gourmet dinner on the Saturday or Monday evening, a five course dinner on the other evening and a chocolate afternoon tea. For an additional treat, there’s also a Spa and Thermal Suite offering a full range of therapies and treatments and the spa boasts what has been dubbed the best waterside view in Europe.

The deal: The price per couple starts from £398 for accommodation in a Garden View room, rising to £531 for a Premier Lake View room. Call 01691 870692 or visit www.lakevyrnwy.com.

Bohemian barn break in Norfolk:
If you fancy getting a big group together to enjoy Easter, then this is the ideal break. The award-winning nine-bedroom barn conversion set in five acres of landscaped gardens boasts striking architecture, creative design and colourful bohemian furnishings, including a cathedral-like minstrels’ gallery with a banqueting table to seat 18.

The barn sits on an 80 acre farm bought by Geoffrey Chaucer for his son in the 14thcentury and enjoys beautiful views over rolling fields and is only two miles from the North Norfolk coastline.

The deal: Usually £4,985, a three-night stay from Good Friday to Easter Monday is now £3738.75 (£208 per person based on 18). This includes fresh flowers and a gourmet hamper of groceries and champagne and exclusive use of the barn and grounds. Visit Oneoffplaces.co.uk.

Chocolate city break, York:
A brand new short break package themed around the city's chocolate heritage has been launched in York to coincide with the opening of the major new attraction Chocolate – York's Sweet Story this Easter.

Launched by The Grange Hotel, one of York's finest Regency town houses, visitors can try their hand at making chocolate as well as taking an interactive tour of the attraction which recounts the story of York's strong links to chocolate and confectionary through the ages.

The deal: The break includes two nights' bed and breakfast sharing one of the hotel's lovely double rooms, dinner on one night, a Chocolate Afternoon Tea and entrance to the new visitor attraction. It is priced from £82.50 per person per night throughout 2012. Call 01904 644744 or visit www.grangehotel.co.uk.

Swap chocolate eggs for coconuts in the Maldives:
If you want to make the most of those extra days off and would rather be getting a tan than gobbling chocolate then why not spend a week in the luxurious Vilu Reef Beach & Spa Resort in the Maldives?

Located in the South Nilandhe Atoll, this beautiful resort is surrounded by lush green vegetation, tall coconut palms and white sandy beaches, with a beautiful lagoon one side and a reef the other – ideal for snorkelling and diving. Offering a wealth of facilities, including a choice of restaurants and bars, infinity pool, gym, watersports centre, PADI dive centre and a spa, you won’t even miss the chocolate eggs!

The deal: Travelbag is offering seven nights at Vilu Reef Beach & Spa Resort from £1,799 per person. Available for departures betweenApril 2nd and 5th, the price includes return flights from Heathrow (via Muscat) with Oman Air, accommodation in a garden villa on a half-board basis, resort seaplane transfers, taxes and surcharges. Call 0871 703 4240 or visit www.travelbag.co.uk.

Family adventure in Cuba:
Families can enjoy the white sandy beaches, jungle-covered mountains and vibrant culture of this friendly Caribbean island on a comprehensive trip of the western part of Cuba. From the salsa rhythms and classic American cars of Havana and Trinidad to the chance to snorkel over coral reef, there’s plenty of variety on this 12-day trip with The Adventure Company.

The deal: The adventure costs from £1,499 per adult / £1,369 per child including flights, B&B accommodation, transport (minibus & boat), some meals (three lunches & one dinner) and an experienced local leader. Visit www.adventurecompany.co.uk.
