Tintin has inspired adventure holidays in India, Egypt and Jordan

The world’s favourite Belgian explorer, Tintin, is the inspiration for a new selection of adventure holidays, allowing fans of the comic to relive some of their hero’s most famous expeditions.

On The Go Tours has joined forces with Moulinsart, the rights holders to the work of Hergé, the creator of The Adventures of Tintin, to recreate popular journeys to India, Egypt or Jordan.

Expert local guides are on hand to inform visitors of the area, and ‘Tintinologists’ personally accompany some expeditions to share their passion, experience and insights about Hergé and his inspirations.

Different Tintin holidays are available, for the avid adult Tintin fan and younger travellers. The adult holidays feature a strong cultural and historical bias and most are led by a Tintin expert. The family holidays are designed to bring the spirit of Tintin alive for the whole family and are suitable for children aged between seven and twelve.

Jay Lakshman, MD of On the Go Tours, says: “To be able to present Tintin fans worldwide with authentic holiday experiences, following in the footsteps of my favourite adventurer, truly is a special moment. Fittingly, the inaugural adventure takes place in India [on 29 October 2010].”

The India trip takes place Maharaja Gaipajama and recaptures much of the imagery portrayed in Tintin’s travels. Highlights of the trip include: Delhi, Agra – home to the Taj Mahal and the jewel of India’s crown – and Ranthambhore National Park.

Visitors to Egypt will discover the pyramids and the treasures of the famed Egyptian museum, sail down the river Nile and ride in a hot air balloon over Luxor’s deserted West Bank. Fans can also visit the spot where Tintin first lands on Egyptian soil, at Port Said.

Or if tourists choose the Jordan trip, they will get to swim in the mineral-rich Dead Sea, explore the medieval Shobak Castle and uncover the Rose City of Petra – Jordan’s glittering archaeological crown. The more adventurous can camp under the stars in the vast Wadi Rum desert and snorkel in the warm waters of the Red Sea at Aqaba.

The new brochure launches on May 10th 2010.
