Enjoy a castle getaway in Edinburgh, Lothian and the Borders

Enjoy a castle getaway in Edinburgh, Lothian and the BordersHolidaymakers of all ages will find plenty to enjoy on a getaway to Edinburgh, Lothian and the Borders.

The region offers a range of activities that are sure to appeal to all tastes (and budgets).

Whether you choose to rent a castle in Scotland or opt for something less extravagant, you are bound to have a wonderful stay when you venture north of the border.

Excitement in Edinburgh

Scotland's vibrant capital city, known as the Athens of the North, is the perfect location for an urban getaway.

Families with younger children will find plenty to see and do during a day out at Edinburgh Zoo – particularly when the penguins come out to play! History buffs will be charmed by the city's focal point – Edinburgh Castle – at all times of year, although the building is particularly striking when it is illuminated with the annual fireworks display put on by the Edinburgh International Festival in August.

And city lovers will find that Edinburgh's blend of pubs, clubs and sumptuous restaurants set the stage for a perfect night on the town.

But if you are looking to take the family out of the city, it may be worth considering Lothian as your Scottish destination of choice.

Lovely Lothian

With large houses in Scotland available to rent for groups of all sizes, why not bring the whole family to Lothian to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life?

Dad might want to take to the links on one of East Lothian's well-known golf courses, while the historic ruins of Linlithgow Palace are not to be missed.

Active families may wish to give skiing a go at Hillend's dry slope centre – and of course the grown-ups will not want to miss a trip to the Glenkinchie Distillery!

But if your family is keen to spend as much time outdoors, the Borders may be the perfect destination.

The brilliant Borders

With its rolling hills and picturesque castles, the Borders is the ideal place to enjoy time outdoors.

Nature lovers will find plenty to keep them busy in the numerous specialist gardens at the region's castles and abbeys, many of which are open to the public.

The Tweed Cycle Way and the Borderloop are sure to thrill cyclists of all abilities, while anglers will be able to try their luck in the river Tweed, which feeds most of the Border lakes.

Whenever you choose to visit the beautiful country of Scotland, Scotts Castle Holidays has a range of Scottish holiday accommodation to suit groups of all sizes.
