Get away from it all on bargain holidays to Turkey

Get away from it all on bargain holidays to Turkey

With beaches on the Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Seas, Turkey offers an array of stunning destinations for travellers looking to get away from it all.

Indeed, Turkey is a popular choice for both couples seeking romantic breaks and families looking to spend quality time together and learn about the history and culture of a new place. Plus, with a wealth of wonderful shopping and an exciting nightlife, Turkey is also a great option for groups of friends travelling together.

Even better, a trip to Turkey doesn't need to break the bank. In fact, there are plenty of bargain holidays in Turkey for travellers choose from. In fact, the hardest part of planning your getaway won't be saving up to pay for it, but rather choosing where to go and what to do when you get there!

The Turkish Riviera

Located on the south-eastern coast, the Turkish Riviera is one of the country's most popular coastal destinations. It is famous for its turquoise water, picturesque scenery and intriguing historic sites.

Resort cities in this region include Belek, Side, Antalya and Kemer. Each of these offer plenty of activities for holidaymakers, including scuba diving, sea kayaking, golfing and hiking. Of course, you'll also want to spend some time soaking up the sunshine on the glorious beaches.

Travellers may wish to go on day excursions to places like the Temple of Artemis in Selcuk, which is located near Kusadasi. This ancient site, which dates back to the Bronze Age, features the remains of a temple, which was built around 550 BC and is often counted among the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Other popular activities include exploring the ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and the Byzantine castle in Alanya. Alternatively, those who wish to appreciate the area's natural beauty can opt for a boat tour of the lovely caves, coves and grottos.

Plenty more to see and do

If you're travelling to the Aegean region of Turkey, then resorts like Bodrum, Gumbet and Bitez are all possibilities. Meanwhile, if you'd prefer a more authentic Turkish experience, a trip to Gumusluk – a charming fishing village – might be a better option.

Wherever you choose to stay on your bargain break in Turkey, you're likely to enjoy wonderful weather throughout your journey. The holiday season extends from the early spring to late autumn and the climate is typically dry and warm during these months. In the height of summer, temperatures can peak in the mid-thirties.

The country is also known for its delicious food and visitors should be sure to sample the local cuisine.

Traditional kebabs are a must, while mezze – a collection of small dishes like meatballs, stuffed bell peppers and calamari – provides a great way to taste a number of flavours. If you're looking for a sweet treat, don't miss out on baklava – layers of crunchy filo pastry, chopped nuts and honey.
