Enjoy vibrant Peru on a South American tour

Peru tourIf you are after adventure and excitement on your South American tour, why not spend some time in colourful Peru?

This country boasts some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, as well as some of the richest historical discoveries in the world. Whether you choose to trek the spectacular Inca Trail to Machu Picchu or opt to visit one of the nation's many other dynamic sites, you're sure to have an adventure on your Peru tour.

At Grand American Adventures, we specialise in active breaks, so you can be sure that your trip to South America will be an unforgettable experience.

Trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

If you are fascinated by the ancient civilisations of South America, you will want to pay a visit to Machu Picchu – the famed Lost City of the Incas.

The epic trek along the Inca Trail is a favourite among travellers to this part of the world with good reason – the scenery is spectacular and you'll be able to get a firsthand view of how the Incas lived thousands of years ago.

But when you join the epic three-week Inca Trail tour offered by Grand American Adventures, you'll also have the opportunity to go further off the beaten track.

On your travels, you'll also take in the magnificent Colca Canyon – the gorge here is approximately twice as deep as Arizona's Grand Canyon.

From here, you'll continue your adventure at the world's highest navigable lake – Lake Titicaca. This body of water is situated in the high plains bridging Bolivia and Peru. Expect a warm welcome from the friendly locals here – you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn about traditional cultures and examine the handiwork of artisans from the region.

You'll then continue on to Cusco, where you will acclimate to the altitude, spend time in the bustling markets and soak up the welcoming atmosphere before beginning your final trek on the Inca Trail.

Choose between trekking the traditional Inca Trail or the undiscovered Moonstone Inca Trail with your experienced guide – both journeys will lead you to Machu Picchu where you can enjoy a spectacular sunrise.

What to expect on your South America tour

When you book a Machu Picchu tour with Grand American Adventures, you can rest assured that we'll take care of you every step of the way.

Our trips include all transport – including the local flight between Cusco and Lima – and all accommodation is included in the price. At Lake Titicaca, you'll have the chance to experience a home stay with a local family and you'll be camping out on the Inca Trail, so you'll have a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with Peruvian life on your South American adventure.

During your time in Peru, you'll be accompanied by a bilingual tour leader – fluent in English and Spanish, your guide will be able to give you detailed information about all of your travel destinations and can help you with anything you need while you are away from home.

You may also want to speak to your tour leader about participating in a range of optional activities that are available to you when you book with Grand American Adventures. Whether you're keen to try mountain biking, explore the Peruvian peaks on horseback or relax and unwind in the natural hot springs at Aguas Calientes, there are plenty of adventures to be had during your time in South America.
