Head to the French Alps for an amazing active break

written by admin May 17, 2016

For an exciting active holiday, the French Alps is hard to beat. Whether you choose to visit in the winter or summer, throughout the region you will find resorts where you can try a wide range of exciting pursuits so there will be lots to keep you busy.

Somewhat unsurprisingly given its altitude and mountainous landscape, the area is a leading destination for skiing holidays and while there are plenty of places to enjoy fantastic winter sport action, Chamonix is perhaps among the very best.

Not only are there 69 runs and countless off-piste areas that will offer a challenge to skiers of all ability levels, but you can also go on snowshoe expeditions, ice skating and dog sledding.

Snowboarders, meanwhile, may want to visit the freestyle park in order to practice tricks and big-air jumps.

Alternatively, why not head to Sainte Foy for an active holiday? Here you will find two freestyle parks and 150 hectares of slopes, so there should be ample space for you to show off your skills.

The resort is relatively uncrowded however, so not only is it the perfect place for you to learn how to ski and snowboard under the supervision of expert instructors, but it is also ideal for family activity holidays.

If you’re looking for something a bit different to do during the course of your break, the resort offers ice climbing and ski-biking – among other activities – so there’s little need to worry about boredom setting in at any point of your vacation.

While the French Alps is an amazing destination for a winter getaway, it is equally fantastic for those keen to go on sporty vacations in the summer. Come here at this time of year and you’ll be able to try a wealth of activities while enjoying the warm weather.

Tignes is one of the many resorts that offers an abundance of things for you to do and with activities ranging from cycling to archery, there is bound to be something for you.

If you’re looking for activity holidays where you get the chance to play a spot of tennis there is perhaps no better destination. There are 20 outdoor courts to play on – a number that is higher than those at Roland Garros, the location of the French Open – so you should find it an ideal place to practice your serves and volleys.

Water sport enthusiasts will also be in their element here. For a really high-octane break, why not try white water rafting or kayaking? Both these activities are sure to get the blood pumping, although if you fancy something a little more serene you can visit the lake to fish for trout.

Alternatively, you may want to consider going to Morzine for an exciting active holiday. Located in the country’s Haute-Savoie region, here you will be able to go hiking and mountain biking along a wide range of routes, breathing in fresh alpine air and seeing beautiful scenery as you do so.

Other sports you might wish to give a go include windsurfing, swimming, canoeing and quad biking, so there should be plenty of scope for you to try new activities over the course of your holiday.

No matter if you travel in the winter or summer or are away with your kids or friends, an active holiday to the French Alps is one that you are sure to remember forever.
