Head to Fuerteventura for some of the best water sports and diving in the Mediterranean

Thursday, 28 April 2011 12:00 AM

The Mediterranean is a renowned destination for glorious holidays in the sunshine and if you’re keen to try some water sports or diving on your break, nowhere could be better. And by embarking on Canary Islands holidays to Fuerteventura, you can enjoy a fantastic range of water-based activities.

Home to a stunning coastline, clear waters and beautiful beaches, Fuerteventura certainly makes for an idyllic and relaxing holiday. The oldest of the Canary Islands, it is a tranquil destination with much to offer those looking to spend some time soaking up the sun.

Indeed, you’ll find beaches aplenty here – the ideal locations for a lazy day of sunbathing and, of course, water sports. If you are keen to head out on the water, the east coast is generally considered the best place to do so. Over on the west, both the winds and the currents are strong, making the waters tricky for visitors.

If you’re particularly into surfing, make sure you pay Punto de Ballena beach a visit, which is something of a surfers’ paradise.

Meanwhile, Jandia peninsula is a well-known windsurfing destination and actually hosts the World Windsurfing Championship each July. This gorgeous area is home to some magnificent white sand beaches, so even if you’re not planning a day on the water, you’re certain to be more than happy to simply enjoy the view.

Fuerteventura is also an excellent destination for diving – and an especially great place for beginners. The ideal location for your first trip into the blue depths, here you can be guided through the island’s astonishing marine life by experts. The transparent waters make this an especially good spot for your adventures!

Of course, experienced divers can venture out on more challenging expeditions. However, if you’d rather not take a dip yourself, why not enjoy a trip on a glass-bottom boat? This can be a wonderful way to experience the island’s underwater world without getting wet.

With pleasant weather for most of the year and a range of exciting water sports on offer, Fuerteventura holidays make for the ideal relaxing holiday in the sun.
