Get back to nature with an Alaska adventure

Adventure holidays to AlaskaIf you are after a holiday destination offering plenty of outdoor adventures, Alaska may be the perfect place for your next break.

America's largest state offers a great opportunity to get back to nature – with a total of 17 national park areas protecting historic, natural and cultural features, there are plenty of places to explore. When you book your break with Grand American Adventures, you'll enjoy the services of a professional tour leader who can help you travel beyond the destinations listed in the guidebooks – you will really have the chance to get off the beaten track.

And if you're looking to spot wildlife on your adventure holidays, you are likely to have luck in Alaska – many visitors to this amazing part of the world are able to snap photographs of grizzly bears, moose and eagles, among many other well-known species.

What can I do on my Alaskan adventure?

If you've always wanted to try wilderness camping, sea kayaking or hiking through some of the world's most stunning mountains, Alaska is the place for you.

The Alaskan tours operated by Grand American Adventures include a stop in Wrangell-St Elias National Park, which covers some 13 million acres and is the largest of the American national parks. This is a hiker's paradise – nine of America's 16 tallest peaks are located within its four mountain ranges. Here, you can explore raging rivers and towering glaciers to your heart's content, led by your experienced guide.

You'll also have the opportunity to visit Kenai Fjords National Park, which is home to the 700-mile Harding Icefield – one of only four remaining icefields in the United States. Make sure you also see the vast Exit Glacier and spot the local wildlife on your holiday to Alaska – sea lions, seals and whales can all be seen from this park.

Animal lovers will also love spending time in Denali National Park. A diverse collection of wild animals call this preserve home – have your camera at the ready in case you spot a Dall's sheep, moose, grizzly bear, wolf or caribou! You can also choose from the park's vast network of walking and hiking trails if you fancy exploring by foot – or simply gaze in awe at the 20,320 ft Mount McKinley, which is the highest peak in North America.

And if you're an adrenalin junkie who's keen to have an up-close-and-personal experience with the Alaskan wilderness, there are plenty of optional activities for you to take part in. You can try your luck at halibut fishing, mountain biking or sea kayaking – or even take to the skies in a float plane for an aerial view of Denali National Park. The choices are endless and Grand American Adventures can help you to plan your perfect escape.
