Head under the sea in a submarine on a Mauritius holiday

Friday, 22 January 2010 12:00 AM

Mauritius holidays will always be an exciting affair – whether you want to relax on a luxurious beach, see the sights or get involved in all manner of active pursuits.

One unique activity holidaymakers might want to undertake while on holidays to Mauritius is exploring the waters around the island in a submarine.

These excursions are run by Blue Safari Submarine, the only operator of such tours in the Indian Ocean, and could be a fascinating way of really getting to grips with Mauritius’s astounding underwater world.

Blue Safari Submarines has two vessels to take guests down into the deep blue world of the Indian Ocean, which are capable of diving to a depth of more than 35 metres.

Here you’ll be able to take in an array of marine life, as well as shipwrecks dating back to the 17th century.

A range of different packages are available for specific holiday groups and events. Standard dives are available for adults and children, while more specialised offerings are on hand for those who want to be the only passengers onboard the submarine and couples who are getting married and are planning Mauritius honeymoons.

You can also choose to have an underwater lunch or a mini-party consisting of canapes and champagne – perfect for special occasions.

More adventurous types might want to take control of their vessel and explore the ocean for themselves.

While you cannot pilot your own submarine, you can hire sub-scooters for one or two people and go down to a depth of three metres. A guide diver will accompany the users of the sub-scooter to ensure safety.

Of course, there’s so much more to do on Mauritius luxury holidays.

The island is home to a plethora of gorgeous beaches, not to mention some spectacular natural scenery and a host of shops and museums.

Other activities include spa trips, golf and eating out at one of Mauritius’s many fine restaurants.

If you’re considering all inclusive Mauritius holidays, you may find the cost of some of these pursuits included in the price of your break.
