7 Tips for enjoying a boating holiday

written by admin May 21, 2018

Many boat holiday-goers enjoy the experience, not only for the pleasure but also because it helps a great deal to relieve stress and the monotony of everyday activities, among other benefits. But before embarking on a trip, it’s important you equip yourself well in order to make the most of the journey.

The first thing a beginner going on a boat holiday things probably thinks about is picking their boat carefully, start with some research. And that’s true; it’s just about the first rule in boat trips. But there are other key things to note to relaxing and memorable trip afloat on water.

Check the weather is clement

The condition of the weather determines if you’ll have a smooth-sailing trip or a tempestuous one filled that drains the fun out of boating. It’s best to postpone the trip to another day of the weather isn’t good.

Can you sail through the fog?

Drivers on the road are not the only ones that have to struggle through the fog when it fills the air; it’s also a danger on the water. You need to have a high level of boating competence and dexterity to be ready for the kind of visual distortion that often comes with a foggy weather. If you are driving, have a boating license and are confident fog won’t be a problem, then you probably could make it a part of the fun experience. You can get a boating license and training from

“We have full training service to take you into completing your boating license. You will be with expert instructors and with top of the range facilities even off site computer simulations to help you learn what is required and to help your practical experience.”

“Vi har full opplæringstjeneste for å få deg til å fullføre båtkortet ditt. Du vil være med sakkyndige instruktører og med topp avstandsutstyr, til og med utenom datamaskinens simuleringer for å hjelpe deg med å lære hva som kreves og for å hjelpe deg med praktisk erfaring. ” – Norwegian Boat License Experts – https://båtførerkurset.no/

You can then sail the fantastic Norwegian Fjords after your training!

Otherwise, you can request from the boating holiday company for a postponement of the trip until the weather clears up again.

Have your compass with you

A compass guides you on a journey, including a trip on water. This handy tool could be all the difference between navigating purposefully on water or floating around in circles.

Don’t rush and be safety conscious

Water sports and holidays are always great fun, but you shouldn’t get carried away and lose all sense of safety and security. Remember to wear a life jacket when mooring up; respect the river and other boaters. Also, make sure not to drive the boat after sunset. Besides the obvious safety reasons not to do so, in some places it’s an offence to boat when the sun goes down and you could be fined for breaking that rule. Got your dog along on the ride? Get cheap rubber mats along as well so your dog can jump on and off the boat without slipping.

Get an assistant

Typically, boating companies have a driver and two or more skippers on the ride with the vacationers. Whether you have a driver or you’re driving yourself, be sure there are one or two assistants or ‘skippers’ who’ll act as an extension of you and can be very important in case of an emergency.

Do a checklist of your essential gadgets

We already mentioned your life jacket and compass. Other suggested or must-take items include a torch, camera, in-car phone charger, colouring books, games and crayons, tea and coffee, and homemade stew.
