Have an adventure on a holiday to Mexico

Mexico holidayWhen it comes to adventure breaks, there's no better place than Mexico to enjoy a diverse and active holiday. Whether you're looking to experience its snow-capped volcanoes, tropical jungles, wild deserts or massive canyons, you'll find Mexico offers the perfect natural setting for adventure tours.

Bask in the sunshine on the Mayan Riviera, sample the world-renowned cuisine or discover ancient pyramids deep in the jungle – whatever you choose to do, you're sure to have a brilliant time on your Mexico holiday.

With so much to see, you may find it hard to know where to begin when it comes to booking your Mexican break – which is where Grand American Adventures can help. We offer a range of tours to this fascinating country, so whether you're after a trek through the jungle or are keen to brush up on your pre-Columbian history, get in touch with us to book the break that's perfect for you.

Experience Mexico on an adventure holiday

If you're keen to experience Mexico firsthand, there's no better place to begin than by taking a Yucatan tour.

This part of Mexico is steeped in history. Channel your inner Indiana Jones on a visit to Palenque, which is considered to be among the best of the country's pre-Columbian sites. Here, you'll be able to see the mysterious tomb of Pakal, Palenque's most revered leader, which is located within the Temple of Inscriptions. Palenque is set deep in the jungle and contains unexplained links to the Far and Middle East, adding to its Mayan mystique.

Or you may prefer to explore Chichen Itza, which is located on the northern Yucatan Peninsula and is one of Mexico's largest ceremonial centres. You'll have the chance to take in a series of impressive monuments and temples here, looking back on thousands of years of the country's rich history.

Monte Alban is also well worth a visit if you are keen to learn more about the traditional cultures of this fascinating nation. The majestic ceremonial centre overlooks Oaxaca, which had a population of 25,000 at its peak. Over the years, it has served as a site for ancient rituals, a burial ground and as a base for the invading Mixtecs before it was abandoned more than 1,300 years ago.

Once you've had your fill of cultural sites, head to the metropolis of Merida – the urban hub of the Yucatan Peninsula. Founded at the site of Tihoo, an ancient Mayan settlement, Merida is home to a number of excellent markets and is particularly known for its hammocks. The city has more multi-millionaires per capita than any other world centre and has previously been referred to as Paris of the West, but Merida has also retained its unique links to its Mayan past – particularly at its excellent archaeological museum, which is well worth a visit.

But Mexico is more than Mayan history and bustling cities – there are also plenty of activities you can participate in during your North American break. Whether you rent quad bikes to explore the diverse terrain, learn how to scuba dive or take a swim with dolphins, you are sure to have an adventure you'll never forget.
