What to see and do on Caribbean sailing holidays from The Moorings

What to see and do on Caribbean sailing holidays from The Moorings

The Caribbean is the perfect destination for a sailing holiday thanks to its laidback atmosphere, stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife.

There are several locations in the region ideal for exploring by boat – and each of these provides a slightly different experience, so you should be able to identify the best spot for you and your party.

Book Caribbean sailing holidays with The Moorings and you could find yourself setting sail for the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Belize, St Lucia or another one of the unforgettable destinations that can be found in this part of the world.

What are the different Caribbean sailing holiday destinations?

The Caribbean is a region of a considerable size – there are hundreds of islands to explore, but you'll find that some are more suited to yachting breaks than others.

Many people opt to go sailing in the British Virgin Islands precisely because it is so perfect for travelling around by boat.

This group of more than 60 islands is famous for being something of a haven for sailors due to its unspoilt scenery, protected and calm waters, and attractive coastal towns ideal for onshore excursions.

The capital and the largest island in the set, Tortola, has several features that draw many charter boats, such as the restaurants and bars of Cane Garden Bay and some beautiful isolated beaches and coves on the north shore.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, sailing holidays in the Bahamas are also popular among those chartering a vessel.

Made up of around 700 islands sprawling across an area of ocean measuring almost 100,000 square miles, exploring the Bahamas in its entirety on a normal holiday is pretty much impossible unless you have several months to spare!

There are, however, a few islands that are a definite must-see however long you stay in the area. The remote cays and stunning coral reefs of the Abacos make them the ideal destination for a sailing break, whether you're steering a cruising yacht or a high-speed powerboat.

Other Caribbean hotspots that should be considered include St Lucia, one of the Windward Islands and a haven for nature lovers and water sports fans. Spend your onshore excursions here relaxing on its stunning beaches before you head under the water on a diving or snorkelling trip.

Mingle with the locals at the colourful markets and take in some unique art and historical artefacts at the various galleries and museums on the island to add some culture to your sojourn here.

For a taste of France, head to the island of St Martin to enjoy its top-class cuisine, golden beaches and historic sights, or sail to Belize to view its huge barrier reef – which is the world's second biggest.

One final destination to consider on Caribbean sailing holidays is Canouan and the Grenadines, where you'll find unspoilt islands and some excellent diving and snorkelling sites.
