Alternative music festival, Lollapalooza, is still going strong – and the organizers have just announced the official 2009 line-up! Originally a touring event in the 90s, the festival is now held in the city of Chicago – the American home of jazz, blues and (for many) music history.
This year’s Lollapalooza sees a typically eclectic selection of big name bands and DJs from every genre take to the stage in Grant Park between 7 and 9 August.
More than 100 acts are scheduled to perform, with headliners including Depeche Mode, Lou Reed, Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon. There’s also a nightclub style second arena, where the bill will be topped by Simian Mobile Disco and MSTRKRFT.
However, Lollapalooza isn’t just about the superstars – it’s a relaxed, child-friendly event that has always led the way when it comes to culture and atmosphere.
The crowd is usually made up of both local residents and travellers enticed by the line-up and reputation. If you’re heading into Chicago for the festival, it’s a good idea to book your accommodation in advance as well as your ticket. There are a number of Chicago hostels offering affordable rooms or dorm beds near the venue, but the best spots are sure to fill up fast.
Last year’s event was a sell-out and, with the line-up now confirmed, 2009 looks set to be a repeat!
