See exotic creatures on a Boston family break

If you're searching for a family-friendly city break, Boston is one destination you ought to consider visiting. In coming here, you will discover a range of exciting attractions that will captivate tourists of all ages and interests.

Once you've taken care of travel essentials such as booking a flight to Boston (something which you can do by clicking here) and paying for hotel accommodation, you should start planning which particular attractions you and your loved ones want to see. Here is a look at a couple of the places that will make for a fantastic day out.

Boston Children's Museum

A trip to the Boston Children's Museum, which is situated in Congress Street, will give kids the perfect opportunity to learn more about the world around them. With more than a dozen exhibits – including both temporary and permanent displays – open at any one time, there will be lots to take in.

The Kid Power gallery offers a family-friendly insight into healthy eating and exercise, where children can have fun on an interactive dancefloor or attempt climbing a wall. There are also display panels giving visitors information on superfoods and nutritious breakfasts.

Heading to the Peep's World area, meanwhile, offers kids the chance to learn more about water and sand. With a number of hands-on displays located here, little ones will not only have the chance to indulge their curiosity about scientific processes but can also develop their motor skills. Other attractions include New Balance Climb – a kid-friendly climbing sculpture that consists of brightly-coloured curved platforms – and the Japanese House, which is an authentic replica of a two-storey silk merchant's home in Kyoto.

The museum is open every day of the week from 10:00 to 17:00 local time, so there should be plenty of opportunity to incorporate a trip here into your holiday. However, it may be best to come on a Friday, as then the attraction does not close until 21:00. Admission is $14 (around £8.80) each for both adults and children, although entry for those who are aged 12 months or below is free.

New England Aquarium

Animal lovers of all ages will definitely enjoy a trip to the New England Aquarium. This wonderful attraction is situated at Central Wharf next to the city's waterfront, with its location making it easy to visit for those using public transport.

Step inside the aquarium and you can expect to come across hundreds of fascinating creatures, ranging from penguins and sea lions to bonnethead sharks and lobsters. Head to the Gulf of Maine exhibit, meanwhile, and you can see crabs and giant starfish scuttling between underwater rocks, as well as terns, sanderlings and other shorebirds.

If you come here between April and October, you can take a boat ride up to the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary. By going on this voyage, you and your children will see a range of creatures, including humpback whales and dolphins, while a team of naturalists are onboard to tell you more about the behaviour and migration patterns of the animals you spot in the water.

Admission is usually $22.95 and $15.95 for adults and children aged between three and 11 respectively, although prices are currently below these rates as the aquarium undergoes improvement works that are estimated to be complete by summer.
