A beginner’s golf holidays guide to travelling abroad

written by Dan Casper September 26, 2019

Whether you’re a seasoned pro but have never taken your game overseas, or a full novice who wishes to get started in style, golfing holidays are extremely popular and golf holidays direct offers great offers and deals.

Golfing holidays are a wonderful way to get away for a few evenings with your friends or family and do something you enjoy too, so if it’s something you’re considering, you’ll find some excellent tips here.

Work the Golf Holiday Budget

As with any type of vacation, the first thing you need to do is to work out a budget. Take your flights, hotels, green charges and anything else you’re going to need into consideration.

Once you have booked your course and hotel, consider adding any extras to your course.

For example, if you walk around the course in the heat, a buggy can be a lifesaver and you may need to factor in the cost of hiring clubs if you don’t have your own or if you don’t want to take them with you.

When to travel

In terms of weather, cost and accessibility, choosing precisely when you want to book your golf vacation is very crucial.

For example, here in Barbados, most visitors come to the island between December and April, where when you’re out on the course, the weather is slightly cooler and more bearable and the ideal spot for staying in the Beach front villas in Barbados.

On the other side, if you want to visit when there are fewer individuals around, so you will have more tee times available and be able to take your time around the course a little bit longer, we suggest that you visit between May and November when you may also be able to pick up cheaper flights.

Packing for your golf break

You’re going to take a little more gear than you would for a normal vacation, of course, so what’s the best way to make the most of your packing space.

Generally speaking, the more you bring, the more you’ll have to pay, so we’d recommend that you don’t take your luggage anymore on top of your golf bag (attempt to fit all your clothes in your hand luggage and golf bag).

Make sure you use all the space available in your bags, including shoe pockets and any space that your golf gear doesn’t take up.

A nice tip is to pack a lot of clothes that can be worn on and off the course, but make sure you’re getting enough, particularly if it’s predicted to rain.

What about golf lessons

If you’re new to golf, book some courses while you’re away to get you into the swing of things is certainly a good idea.

Even if you’ve performed before, before you step out on the course, you might want to brush stuff up.

Whether it’s the variety of riding or placing green, having some additional exercise can make all the difference once you get out there.

What about other Non-Golfing Activities

Finally, while at first you’re likely going to want to spend every moment of the day out on the course, it’s a good idea to have some other stuff scheduled for your vacation as you can burn out with golf!

Take a tour of the region you’re staying in, see some of the local attractions, and be sure to enjoy a pleasant dinner and some shopping.

Golf resorts are generally in some of the world’s most lovely areas, so make sure you get the most out of them!
