UK Holiday Parks

Over the last few years, more and more British families have been choosing to spend their holidays in the UK rather than travelling overseas. Thanks to the drop in value of the pound against the Euro, and of course the media coverage of climate change this is a trend that is likely to continue for the foreseeable future as travelling abroad becomes increasingly expensive.

Of course, one of the drawbacks of staying in Britain is the fact that the weather is fairly changeable, and over the last couple of years, there hasn’t been a summer as such. This means that any family wanting to organise a holiday in the UK will need to find somewhere to stay that provides more than just a beach so that the kids have something to do.

Until the advent of cheap flights to Spain and package holidays back in the 1960s when it became increasingly affordable for families to head off to the Costas for a week of sun, the quintessential holiday experience for most families was a week or two on one of the many coastal holiday parks around the UK.

Things have moved on from the 1950s though, and modern holiday parks are able to offer much more than a glamorous granny competition to their guests.

The British holiday park experience has been transformed dramatically in the last few years. The fact that these parks have to compete with foreign destinations means that they have had to evolve to survive. Massive investment by companies like Haven in their infrastructure means that their caravan parks around the UK now offer first class accommodation and entertainment. Children’s clubs with plenty of daytime activities give parents the chance to enjoy their own facilities including golf courses and spas, while the evening entertainment offers enough to keep everyone happy.

For most people, the best thing about taking their holiday in the UK is that they are able to get to their destination in a fraction of the time it takes to go abroad. Most people travel less than two hours from home to get to their park, which means that in less time than it takes to check in for a flight, a person can already be unpacked and enjoying their holiday at somewhere like Devon Cliffs on the South Coast.

The idea behind a modern holiday park is that it provides guests with enough to do during the day that they don’t need to leave the park for the entire duration of the stay. Most offer indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a range of activities, such as nature walks or sailing lessons. Many families prefer to have the opportunity to tour the area around their park during the day. With this in mind, it is a good idea for anyone looking at a UK holiday park to consider the local attractions available close by when planning their trip.

Most of the larger holiday parks in the UK are located close to major tourist destinations such as Blackpool or Great Yarmouth where there are plenty of attractions to enjoy. Families will normally be able to find something of interest within a short drive of any holiday park from coastal walks through to theme parks, meaning that no matter what they want to do during the day, they will be able to find it close by.
