Sharjah Desert Park

For 'close encounters' with Arabian wild life it is worth visiting the Sharjah Desert Park which is about twenty minutes' drive from Sharjah. The Wild Life Park stretches across an area of one square kilometer and comprises Arabian Wild Life Centre, Children's Farm and the Natural History Museum.

The Arabian Wildlife Center is the only 'zoo' in Arabia that houses almost all species of animals inhabiting the Arabian Peninsula. Opened in September 1999, the Centre represents over 100 species of animals in safe, spacious, natural surroundings. The Center demonstrates the diversity of the fauna found in the peninsula and creates awareness of the species, which have, and are, becoming extinct.

At the Natural History Museum you have a chance to learn about the flora and fauna of the Arabian Desert, in a relaxing and cheery atmosphere. Observe the great variety of plants and animals and the amazing ways in which these have adapted to life in a dry, hot climate. The place offers a worthwhile experience that will enhance our reverence for nature.

Children's farm was opened in May 1996 to provide city children with a chance to have close contact with farm animals. For children growing up in city apartments, the Children's Farm provides an opportunity to learn that milk does not grow in bottles.
