When looking to book hotels, you might not automatically think of a break in the UK. However, steeped in history and exciting attractions, hotels in the United Kingdom have a lot to offer.

Liverpool can be a particularly exciting area for visitors of all ages. Not only is it home to the renowned football team Liverpool FC, it was the birthplace of supergroup The Beatles and boasts some of the UK's most beautiful architecture.

Hotels in Liverpool will allow you much versatility and variety on your break. Music fans cannot help but feel drawn to the city that spawned one of the biggest bands in history - The Beatles - formed in Liverpool in the late 1950s. The Beatles Story is a fantastic homage to the group, containing memorabilia from the musical stars' world famous career.

Housed in The Albert Dock, the building itself perhaps holds as many joys as the museum within and certainly attracts at least as many visitors per year. It is a stunning World Heritage site, made all the more beautiful by its waterfront setting.

It is also the home of the Tate Liverpool - the biggest collection of modern art in northern England. It frequently hosts international exhibitions, as well as putting on special national exhibitions throughout the year. They run programmes for children to learn about art and to try their hands at being creative themselves, making it a great day out for children as well as adults.

The Tate Liverpool is not the only venue which fulfils this criterion. The wonderful World Museum Liverpool is quite possibly a day out in itself, with exhibits and activities to delight adults and children alike. It showcases artefacts from the realms of archaeology, spanning physics and natural sciences as well as numerous other areas.

Other huge draws of this Liverpudlian gem are its aquarium and free planetarium. The aquarium is the museum's new shining star, exhibiting fish from all over the globe and a 'Living Laboratory', which allows even very young children to see the fish up close and to learn more about them.

The museum's planetarium is free of charge and an absolutely huge attraction for any visitor to Liverpool or indeed the UK. It explores and illustrates beautifully the stars around us, and again runs special shows focusing on children's education.

The World Museum Liverpool is also a lovely place for a lunchtime treat. With great views over the city, the Top Floor cafe offers a good range of tasty lunches so you do not have to cut your day at the museum short by going elsewhere.

If you would like to experience the more artistic side of the city, Liverpool has some excellent theatres - such as the Everyman - in which classic and modern plays are regularly performed.

Another way to experience art in Liverpool and really to get a feel for the city's culture and history is to visit its cathedral. It is the largest in the UK and fifth largest in the world and ranks as top international tourist attraction. It offers breathtaking views across the city, with night viewings from the main attraction - the tower - available to give a view of the city through different eyes.

Liverpool has a lot to offer its visitors, spanning art galleries and museums, to theatres and shows, beautiful sightseeing walks and entertainment for children. It makes an ideal family break, as well as a haven for lovers of art, music and history.
