Visit Hurghada on an exotic Red Sea cruise

The Red Sea is a popular option for those looking for truly exotic cruise holidays.

One of the most visited parts of this region is the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada, which combines the sensory pleasures of plenty of sun, sea and sand with historical attractions and water sports opportunities.

Looking at Hurghada today, it can be hard to believe that it was once an insignificant fishing village.

The area is now highly developed and boasts a number of new hotels and other tourist facilities for those seeking the ultimate sunshine holiday.

However, history buffs need not be put off - there is one part of the town, the Ed-Dahar quarter, which retains something of the old Hurghada with its souk and traditional buildings.

So what is there to do for those arriving in Hurghada on a cruise from UK ports?

Diving is a big attraction for water sports lovers in these parts. While there is much to see under the water for those who prefer snorkelling, it is worth going on an excursion out to sea to dive down and see the coral reefs that lie further out from the coast.

The conservation area of the Giftun Islands is one diving destination that is particularly popular - it is a protected area that boasts some wonderful natural scenery, both in and out of the water.

If you fancy trying your hand at other water sports, there's plenty on offer at Hurghada's many individual resorts, including water skiing, kite surfing and windsurfing.

Back on land, the town centre has numerous diversions for tourists, including the Museum of Marine Biology and the Red Sea Aquarium, while the nearby desert offers the opportunity for a safari or two.

For those able to spend some time on excursions to nearby sites of interest, Bedia and Belih - two Roman fortresses - and the St Anthony and St Paul monasteries are worth a visit.

Whatever you choose to do while in Hurghada, the destination is sure to offer the perfect chance to relax and enjoy Egypt's warm climate.

With a number of companies offering some great UK cruise deals to the Red Sea, there's surely little reason to delay your booking.
