If you are considering heading to Wales for a summer holiday but have yet to decide where to go then you should certainly put the Pembrokeshire village of Tenby on your list.

While this beautiful corner of Wales has plenty to offer visitors all year round, in August there is another reason to book cottage holidays in Wales.

The Tenby Summer Spectacular is an annual event that sees the people and businesses of the small town celebrating.

Usually the festival runs for two weeks at the beginning of August and during that time, you can look forward to a host of activities and displays.

You can watch demonstrations by the Tenby coastguard and Tenby RNLI to see how they rescue people stranded out at sea.

With helicopters hovering over North Bay and lifeboats below, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the winchman as he makes a death-defying rescue.

Once the sun goes down, you will find there are plenty of reasons to stay out and about, with live bands giving musical performances and a spectacular fireworks display to round off the evening.

You'll be able to sit on the beach and watch rockets exploding overhead with their bright colours reflected in the sea below.

If you decide to stay in one of the many cottages with a sea view, then you may be able to watch some of the festivities from the comfort of your accommodation.

Curl up by the window with a glass of wine and enjoy the sights and sounds of the party taking place in the town.

If you are staying in child-friendly cottages in Wales then you will find that there is plenty to keep the little ones amused.

During the Tenby Summer Spectacular, events and activities take place throughout the afternoon, starting at 15:00 (BST).

You can stroll around the picturesque harbour at your leisure, or maybe you'll just want to head to one of Tenby's three beaches, each boasting golden sand and clear blue water.

Another option if you are staying in holiday cottages in Wales is to take a boat trip to Caldey Island, a designated conservation area under the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
