Cruise holidays can be a fantastic way to get a little sea air while travelling in luxury, and if you're looking to go somewhere that offers a wide variety of things for you to see and do than you should be sure to head to Dublin.

Whether you want to indulge in a spot of shopping, find out more about some of the most famous names in literature or check out some fantastic architecture, heading to the Irish capital on last-minute cruises could be the perfect way to spend a few days away.

Fred Olsen Cruises offers trips to the city, and if after arriving in Dublin by boat you are keen to learn a little more about seafaring culture, go to the Docklands, where you see a breathtaking replica of 19th century ship the Jeanie Johnston.

Every summer, a Maritime Festival is held at the docks. And as the event features street theatre, musical performances and activities for children, there will be something for all the family to enjoy while on a cruise holiday.

If you're more into the arts, you will probably already know that several famous writers were born in Dublin and the surrounding areas, including James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Oscar Wilde. By visiting places such as James Joyce Tower and the Dublin Writers Museum, you can get a closer insight into their lives and works.

Culture vultures should also consider visiting the numerous museums and galleries that can be found in Dublin, such as the Pearse Museum and Chester Beatty Library. Meanwhile, the National Leprechaun Museum allows you to find out more about the mythical Celtic creature and other figures from Irish folklore.

Dublin is also well-known for being the home of Guinness. If you choose to visit the Guinness Storehouse, which is located James's Street, you can learn how the stout is created and sample a free pint!

Nature-lovers should head to Dublin Zoo to check out animals like tigers and hippos, although if the only thing you go wild for is high-street bargains, there are plenty of shops and markets to satisfy you.

Of course you may find that there is so much to pack into a trip to Dublin that you could be booking your next cruise holiday to the Irish capital sooner than you think!
