EasyJet pull out of Madrid

EasyJet will no longer base crew and aircraft at Madrid airport, the budget airline announced today.

The news comes after the company discovered that their Madrid base has been delivering returns below par. This is partly due to cover capacity in the Spanish airline market, combied with high airport charges, the company stated.

However, the chages shouldn't imapct passengers wanting to travel with the budget airline to Spain. EasyJet has said that it remains committed to Spain, including Madrid, and will continue to fly to and from Spain out of its bases across Europe.     

Whilst EasyJet does propose to reduce flights to Madrid by around 20 per cent, it will continue to operate flights to and from the Spainish city, from locations across Europe.  

After the proposed changes, EasyJet still expects to carry over 12 million passengers to and from Spain next year.
