Düsseldorf prepares for its biggest festival of the year
From July 13th - 22nd 2012, the German city of Düsseldorf will be holding the ‘Biggest Fun Fair on the Rhine’ summer festival, which is expected to attract over 400,000 visitors per day.
The festival is a long standing tradition in the city and is now in its 111th year. Today it’s the biggest festival in the area and last year attracted a record breaking four million visitors.
The typical German fest combines a traditional beer festival with family fun and features 42 acres of tents, stalls and rides along the river. Visitors can enjoy state-of-the-art roller coasters as well as German culinary treats.
The highlight of the festival is the huge firework display and parade, which will happen on July 20th and feature over 3,000 marchers in uniform and on horseback, as well as orchestra performances.
The festival is also big amongst the gay community and the Monday of the fair will attract over 500,000 people celebrating the so called ‘Pink Monday’.
Special hotel and travel packages for the fun fair event, starting at €52 per person, are available through Düsseldorf Tourist Board.
