Lisbon's Travellers House wins World's Best Hostel prize
The Travellers House Hostel in Lisbon has been named the best hostel in the world in the HOStelworld Customer Annual Ratings awards (Hoscars).
It is the second successive year the establishment has claimed the prize, with the Rossio Hostel and Lisbon Lounge completing a top-three sweep for the city.
There were also top ten places for hostels in Cardiff, Florence, Krakow and Riga in the awards, which were voted for by more than one million Hostelworld.com customers.
The top UK hostel was the Riverhouse Backpackers in Cardiff, the second year in a row the establishment has claimed first place among British entries.
Joao Pires, manager of the Traveller's House Hostel, said to win the award in consecutive years is a great achievement.
"We are very proud to win the top hostel in the world for two years in a row - proud for our hostel, proud for our team and proud for the city and all the Portuguese people. It is an honour to be recognised in this way," he added.
Jurys Inns was recently named the best independent hotel brand for 2010 at the Business Travel Awards, as well as being crowned the UK's first and only green hotel group.
