Emergency evacuation in Barcelona

Passengers on a British Airways flight have been forced into an emergency evacuation in Barcelona following reports of fumes in the cabin.

Some 176 passengers escaped unharmed from the plane following the evacuation on the runway at Barcelona el Prat Airport.

The service had been scheduled to land at the airport after departing from Heathrow in London.

There were no reports of injury among the passengers while fire-fighters called to assist were not required to act according to airport management company Aena.

Engineers are presently investigating the cause of the problem with flight BA478.
