If you're looking for a sunshine break on the beach, why not browse the many Algarve villas Portugal has to offer? The country's southernmost region is renowned for its beautiful stretches of sand, rustic cuisine and picturesque coastal scenery.
The difficulty in choosing a break here is the exact location in which to base yourself. With so many wonderful areas to decide between, selecting just one can be a hard task. If you're after plenty of time on the beach, however, you can't go wrong if you pick either Vale do Lobo or Carvoeiro.
Choose the former and you'll be able to enjoy a luxurious getaway at this exclusive resort. Vale do Lobo became popular among holidaymakers in the 1960s for its golf and tennis facilities, beautiful beach and well-kept surroundings.
You'll find all your needs are catered for here, so you won't need to travel further afield if you want to truly relax. Spend some time lying back on the 2 km-long golden beach, or perfect your swing at one of the two golf courses in the area.
The Royal Course affords excellent views of the sand and the coastline towards Albufeira from hole 16, which is also known as the course's most difficult. If you enjoy a challenge this could well be the place for you!
At the Ocean Golf Course, meanwhile, you'll find undulating fairways which run alongside nature reserve, pine trees and picturesque coastal views.
If you prefer tennis, however, why not enjoy an exciting game at the academy? Popular faces from the sport can be spotted here quite often, so keep your eyes peeled.
And afterwards you can head back to villas in Vale do Lobo to unwind with a glass of local wine or by your own private pool.
For a more active family break, you might want to turn your attention to Carvoeiro. Formerly a small fishing village, the area has developed to keep up with rising tourism but is still a quaint little spot.
The beach is a lovely sheltered sandy bay with cliffs on either side and there are plenty of cafes and bars nearby if you feel peckish or in need of some refreshment.
If getting active in the sun is an enjoyable part of your holidays, Carvoeiro is the ideal place to try out some new water sports. Hire a pedalo for some sedate fun on the water or, for a really exhilarating experience, take a ride on a jet ski!
Alternatively, to explore what lies beneath the surface of the sea, book a session with one of the diving schools in the area.
For some fantastic views on dry land, meanwhile, head up the cliffs for a walk and don't forget your camera. Up here you can also take in the sight of the walls left behind from the Fort of Senhora da Conceicao, established in the 17th century. Inside you'll find the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Encarnacao.
Book Carvoeiro holiday villas so you have your own space in which to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
There is plenty to see and do here if you have little ones to keep busy, while in Vale do Lobo you can rest up and spend quality time relaxing.
Both places are ideal for very different sorts of getaways in the Algarve; the choice is yours as to where you'll pick!
