Top spring events in Jersey

Before you head to the Channel Islands, be sure to check out the Jersey tourist board or a similar informative resource to find out what's going on. There are so many events held on the island, you don't want to risk missing something while you're here.

Spring is a particularly good time to plan a visit, as there is a wealth of Jersey events to choose from. However, there are a few we think are really worth checking out and to find out what these are, read on.

Spring Walking Week

Every year, Jersey makes the most of the spring by hosting a week of walking events - something that is so popular it is repeated again in the autumn.

This year, the event takes place between May 12th and 19th. Of course, it's possible to explore the island's famously-varied terrain whenever you visit, but the benefit of coming during this time is that there are numerous guided walks on offer.

Some of these have themes such as history or gastronomy and so incorporate various fascinating stops, while others simply focus on the stunning scenery. For a real challenge, book a place on the Around Island walk, which lasts five days and takes you right the way around Jersey's coastline.

Jersey Jazz Festival

Love good music? Plan your visit to Jersey for March 30th, as between then and April 4th you'll be able to hear a selection of the best jazz acts in the UK.

Headlining this year's line-up is Dennis "Badbone" Rollins - a British trombone player who has performed with the likes of Blur and Jamiroquai over the years.

The Jersey Jazz Quintet is another act to check out, as it brings together five of the finest musicians in this genre on the island.

Liberation Day

May 9th marks Liberation Day in Jersey - a poignant event commemorating the island's liberation from German occupation at the end of World War II.

Numerous activities are organised on this day, including heritage walking trails leading past some famous wartime sites, like the Jersey War Tunnels. A commemorative service also takes place and in the afternoon you can join the locals for some entertainment at Weighbridge Place.

Jersey Food Festival

Foodies should mark May 19th in their diaries, as this is when the Jersey Food Festival kicks off.

During this week, you can expect to sample a wealth of delicious treats as the island celebrates some of its most famous exports, like the Jersey Royal potato and dairy products produced with milk from Jersey cows.

Visit St Helier at the end of the week to enjoy the al fresco food event, where you'll be able to tuck into a selection of mouth-watering delights.

Jersey Boat Show

The Barclays Wealth Jersey Boat Show makes the most of the destination's island status. This is an event that has become one of the highlights in the UK sailing calendar and whether you're a keen skipper yourself or simply a spectator, there's much to enjoy.

Between May 5th and 7th, you can take advantage of the free entry to the show and check out the maritime exhibitions, where some of the most cutting-edge seafaring vessels will be on display.

Yet there are so many other great attractions if you're wondering what to do in Jersey - you can see why it's worth planning your visit before you arrive.
