Myanmar boasts 2,000 temples and pagodas in Bagan alone

The culture, heritage and inspiring scenery of Myanmar (Burma) continues to draw visitors to South East Asia. For long haul operator Hayes & Jarvis this ongoing interest in the region has led to the introduction of two new tours, expanding its Far East programme to include Burma for the first time.

With over 2,000 temples and pagodas to visit in Bagan alone, the ‘Land of the Golden Pagodas’ is packed full of Buddhist heritage, but there is also a rich natural landscape to explore. Visiting an emerging destination can be daunting, which is why Hayes & Jarvis is offering two escorted tours to Myanmar (Burma) – giving holidaymakers the opportunity to take in the country’s cultural highlights but with the security of a planned itinerary and knowledgeable local guides.

Classic Burma includes stays at Yanyon and Bagan, with visits to the 2,500-year-old Shwedagon Pagoda and Ananda Temple – the largest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan temples. Other highlights include a boat tour on Inle Lake and the chance to see traditional farming villages and monasteries.

With daily private departures, a seven-day trip from November 2nd costs £1,599pp – saving 16 per cent (£315pp) including return Qatar Airways flights from London Heathrow, internal flights, five nights’ three-star plus accommodation, meals, transport and the services of a local guide.

Those looking to splash out can opt for a 10-day luxury Road to Mandalay Cruise with Orient-Express. Kicking off with an overnight stay at The Governor’s Residence in Yangon, the tour continues to Mandalay before transferring to water for a three-night cruise on the Irrawaddy River. There is time to explore some of the temples and pagodas in Bagan before rounding off the trip at Inle Lake with scenic boat tours and visits to handicrafts workshops and floating gardens. Departing on October 29th, priced from £3,599pp – saving 16 per cent (£689pp), the five-star trip includes return Singapore Airlines flights from London Heathrow, internal flights, eight nights’ accommodation, meals, transport, and sightseeing tours.
