A four-day weekend is an exceptional excuse for a romantic getaway, and at Glendurgan Gardens (near Falmouth) you can lose yourselves (or each other) in the 176-year-old cherry laurel maze.

Try stone-skimming from Durgan beach and explore three beautiful valleys that lead to the Helford River.

Hole up down a half-mile-long private road at Maen Toll Cottage (sleeps two). It has a wood-burner and its own very pretty garden.
