Cruising on the Gambia River
Specialist tour operator, Hidden Gambia has unveiled a number of alternative, bargain priced safari holidays for the spring season.
The company is offering nature lovers the chance to explore The Gambia River this Valentine's Day - one of the world's most remote, unspoilt and undiscovered locations - from just £450 per person.
The trip will take guests deep into the Gambian heartland and to one of the world's greatest, and last, true wilderness areas, where visitors can see Hippopotamus, baboons, chimps, crocodiles and the vicious Tigerfish, plus watch vast flocks of rarely seen birds following ancient migration routes.
Providing a truly African experience, deep in the African bush, on the tranquil river banks of MacCarthy Island, the Bird Safari Camp is the perfect base for exploring the fresh water regions up-country and one of the best locations in Gambia for bird-spotting.
Attracting nature lovers from all over the world, over 550 species nest close to the Bird Safari Camp and along the Gambia River, especially owls (Pearl-spotted Owlet, Senegalese and European Scops Owl, Northern White-faced and Milky Eagle Owl have all been seen at the Camp).
The Camp is also a fisherman's haven.
Due its location, few serious anglers have travelled this far inland (over 200 miles along the Gambia River), allowing the Tigerfish to grow to their maximum potential - for example, a 21lb Tigerfish (the World Record catch is 23lb) was caught by an angler staying at The Camp last season.
Commencing February 10th the week long itinerary costs from just £450 per person (based on two sharing). Prices include all accommodation, transfers, park fees and game activities. Flights depart from Gatwick, Manchester or Glasgow.
