The biggest low-cost London hotel in decade has been opened by Travelodge this week.
The £60 million, 392-room hotel is the first in the chain’s programme to develop several new premises across the capital ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.
The hotel is located on City Road close to Old Street, and partly occupies the former headquarters of the sewing machine manufacturer Singer - a grade II listed building.
“The hotel is a clear indication the low cost budget hotel model works in the most premium of locations – to be able to stay in the heart of the city for under £30 is a strong statement to the consumer,” said Travelodge chief executive Grant Hearn.
“This hotel marks the start of our unprecedented programme of growth in London – we will be the biggest hotel brand by the time of the London Olympics.”
Other London hotels in the pipeline for Travelodge in the next six months include Heathrow Terminal 5 (297 rooms), Euston (150 rooms) and Southwark (202 rooms).
