Ryanair: 'Hottest' flights hit by watchdog
No frills airline Ryanair has been rapped by advertising watchdogs for an advert depicting a young women dressed as a school girl.
The advert – promoting flights to Derry, Belfast, Budapest, Grenoble and Stockholm - featured the title "Hottest back to School Fares" and garnered 13 complaints.
The complaints focused on what appeared to be a schoolgirl in a short tartan skirt in a classroom
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled: "We considered her appearance and pose, in conjunction with the heading "Hottest," appeared to link teenage girls with sexually provocative behaviour and was irresponsible and likely to cause serious or widespread offence."
Ryanair denied the charges, saying the short skirt and bare midriff were "representative of the type of clothing that was fashionable among young women in the UK".
This week Ryanair also fell into hot water with the French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
The French head of state and his model girlfriend Carla Bruni are taking the airline to court after a photo of the pair appeared in an advert.
A photo of the couple smiling was next to a caption stating "With Ryanair, my whole family can come to my wedding".
Mr Sarkozy is suing for just €1 (74p) in damages, while Ms Bruni is demanding €500,000 (£371,774), claiming their right to privacy was violated.
