Edinburgh is best place in the UK to live, according to Channel 4's Location, Location, Location, with many of the attractions that bring millions of tourists also enhancing life in the city.

“There is such a huge variety of things to see and do in Edinburgh – from amazing architecture, fabulous scenery and beautiful walks to exclusive shops, Michelin-starred restaurants and world-class events and festivals. It is no wonder the city is the top place to live in the UK," said Location, Location, Location host Phil Spencer.

Phil, and co-host Kirstie Allsopp, have now given their top ten of things to see and do in Edinburgh in conjunction with tourist board Visit Scotland.

The duo's top things to do in Edinburgh are:

  • Visiting the botanical gardens.
  • Walking on the Crags and Arthur’s Seat at sunset.
  • Buying shoes at Harvey Nichols.
  • Visiting some of the beaches that are only 20 minutes away from the city centre.
  • Shopping in Royal Edinburgh Repository on Castle Street, and Bethany's charity shops across the city
  • The zoo for children.
  • The Aquarium.
  • View from Edinburgh Castle.
  • Le Café Saint Honoré, off Thistle Street.
  • Edinburgh at Christmas – the German Christmas market, ice rink and ferris wheel.

Visit Scotland has also asked Britain’s Number 1 tennis player Andy Murray and golfer Sam Torrance for their Scottish top tens, which are available at the body's website.
