The most popular destinations for holidays this year have been topped by Brits staying within UK and Ireland, according to new research.
As much as 68 per cent of Britons plan to holiday within the UK and Ireland, nearly double the number of the next most popular destination Spain (including the Balearic and Canary Islands), at 37 per cent.
People from Yorkshire and the Humber were most likely to holiday in the UK and Ireland, 82 per cent planning a UK and Ireland break, with the over-65s age group most likely to holiday within the home nations and Ireland at 75 per cent.
Also in the top five are European favourite destinations France and Italy, followed by the USA, the survey by AXA reveals.
More surprisingly, the survey finds more Brits are planning to go to Canada than the whole African continent, or popular destinations such as Australia and New Zealand or India.
