Jet2.com has announced a new flight route from Blackpool to the Balearic island of Menorca as part of its summer 2009 schedule.
The regional airline claims that Blackpool is becoming an "increasingly popular departure airport" and now flies to Spain, the Canary Islands and Geneva from the seaside town.
Airport chief executive David Kershaw is delighted Jet2.com has chosen to expand the destinations on offer from Blackpool.
"This is great news for residents of Blackpool, Lancashire and the Lakes, further reducing the need to make a long road or rail journey to an alternative airport," he explained.
"Not only that, it's an ideal opportunity to showcase Blackpool as a leisure destination to other European countries."
The new route is to Mahon airport in Menorca and the airline hopes it will attract both couples and families to the Spanish sunshine, beautiful beaches and pretty villages.
Jet2.com's summer 2009 flight schedule went on sale yesterday.
