Thirsty holidaymakers keen to sample the alcoholic drinks of the world have put the USA and Germany as the best destinations for wine and beer.

The survey by the travel website tripadvisor.com shows the Napa Valley in California is the favourite place for holidaymakers wanting to tour vineyards and taste the region's wine.

In second place is Tuscany in Italy, followed by Bordeaux, France. More surprisingly, wine fans put Santiago in Chile as their fourth favourite place, ahead of well-known wine hotspots such as Rioja in Spain and Champagne-Ardenne, France.

Munich in Germany, thanks to its huge annual beer festival, is the top place for beer-lovers to down their favourite drink.

Dublin's many pubs and status as the home of Guinness put it in second place, ranking ahead of Brussels, famous for its bars with lengthy beer menus.

Beer drinkers put London in fourth place, ahead of Prague, despite beer prices being significantly cheaper in Czech capital.
