Boorman gets to Sydney by any means

Tuesday, 22 Jul 2008 13:10
Adventurer Charley Boorman arrived in Sydney today at the end of his latest 24-country, epic journey – from Ireland to Australia 'by any means'.

Visiting countries as diverse as Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, India, Nepal and Indonesia, Boorman was followed by a three-man camera crew.

He has utilised over 100 different modes of transport since setting out from his home in County Wicklow in April.

Trains, container ships, dugout canoes, cement barges, solar cars and of course Boorman's beloved motorcycles were all pressed into service to get him to Sydney.

The final leg saw him leading a motorcycle convoy of over three hundred bikers across the Sydney harbour bridge to the finishing line in the Sydney botanic gardens.

Fans can look forward to seeing the journey in a six-part TV series on BBC Two in September 2008, as well as on the National Geographic Channel next year.

Boorman shot to fame after the Long Way Home expedition with film star Ewan McGregor.
