More Brits looking for the camping experience

Tuesday, 21 Aug 2007 11:09
There has been a strong increase in the number of Britons looking for camping and caravanning holidays despite the bad weather this summer.

That is according to new research from Yell.com, which reveals 13 per cent more people are looking to experience the great British outdoors with a camping or caravanning holiday than last year.

Hampshire topped the camping destinations list, followed by the less obvious Glasgow.

Bristol, Essex and Dorset are also in the top five places to camp in the UK.

Londoners are the most eager to swap their urban surroundings for a spot of country air, with those living in Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and Milton Keynes also keen to take a camping holiday.

"We have seen a big rise in interest over the past twelve months - the pressures of modern living seem to be giving people a thirst for the great outdoors. Camping and Caravanning Club Sites around the country have been packed with visitors this year," the Camping and Caravanning Club reported.
