Lufthansa will start a new weekly flight service from Dusseldorf International airport to Newquay airport in Cornwall this weekend.
The German national carrier will operate with franchise partner Eurowings for the weekly Saturday service starting on June 21st 2008.
Lufthansa senior vice president Dr Christoph Klingenberg explained the new route is in response to demand from German customers to experience Cornwall.
"The beautiful scenery and landscape of the Cornwall region is well-known to German TV viewers because of the Rosamunde Pilcher novels that are extremely popular here," he said.
The airline reports that forward bookings are strong with seat load factors for July already topping 71 per cent.
Lufthansa/Eurowings will operate Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft on the new route.
The Saturday service will run until September 13th 2008, with departures from Newquay at 11:00 BST and return flights from Dusseldorf departing at 08:55 local time.
Swiss International (with charter flights to Zurich) and British Airways also operate from Newquay airport, which recently opened a new arrivals hall as part of ongoing development to increase capacity to 700,000 passengers a year.
