International events are proving a big draw to Brits looking for city breaks.
The latest data from Lastminute.com reveals local events and festivals are seeing a huge increase in bookings from British holidaymakers.
The website reports the Oktoberfest beer festival in the German city of Munich and the New York Marathon have both seen double the number of bookings compared to last year.
Earlier this year the Cannes Film Festival in May and Milan's fashion week also saw double the number of bookings compared with 2006.
"Our UK customers are becoming more and more savvy and demanding when they are taking a short break," commented John Bevan, Lastminute UK managing director.
"Britons travel extensively and events are great excuses to either go back and spend time in places they have been to before or discover new destinations.
"Holidays are more than ever about the experience and have to offer something extra."
