The chaos at London Heathrow airport's newly-opened Terminal 5 looks set to continue today after all hold luggage services were suspended yesterday afternoon and some passengers had to sleep overnight on the floor.

The much-vaunted £4.3 billion terminal was said to be designed for 21st century travel and expected to ease congestion and improve the airport experience for passengers.

However, British Airways (BA) has already cancelled ten flights this morning and says it will operate only 80 per cent of scheduled services today.

Yesterday 34 flights were cancelled and seven flights left without passengers' luggage onboard the plane.

Technical faults in the luggage processing system have led to a significant backlog and the suspension of services.

The airline continues to offer apologies. It has set up an information line for passengers: 0800 727 800 and service updates are available at www.ba.com.

The website also has information on what to do about rebooking and claiming accommodation compensation if your flight is cancelled.
