Northern Peru is fast becoming a hotspot of cultural attractions for holidaymakers, with the opening of a new modern art gallery this month.
The museum is located in Trujillo, Peru's third biggest city, and is the latest in a series of new cultural attractions in this part of the country.
Designed to be a space where visitors can see local and international modern art coming together, the museum is the project of well-known Peruvian artist Gerardo Chavez, a native of Trujillo.
"It is my hope that the creation of this museum will put both Peru’s contemporary art offerings and Trujillo on the radar of international art enthusiasts and travellers," said Mr Chavez.
The modern art museum follows the recent discovery of the preserved remains of a princess of the Mohica culture, which are to go on display in a special museum in the region.
Other highlights in the region include an ancient fortress of the Chachapoyas’ culture in Kuelap and the world’s third largest waterfall in the city of Chachapoyas Gocta.
