Vaccinations advised for yellow fever in South America

Travellers to Argentina should now consider whether they need a yellow fever vaccination before arriving in the country, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised.
Due to outbreaks in Brazil and Paraguay in the past few months, vaccination is now recommended for those aged over nine months who intend to travel to the regions bordering those countries.
This includes the provinces of Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, Salta and Misiones, including Iguacu Falls.
In Argentina cases of yellow fever were reported in monkeys in Misiones province in January and a human case was confirmed in the province in March.
It is necessary to see your doctor for a vaccination at least six weeks before travelling in order to be effectively protected against yellow fever.
As always, the FCO recommends travellers obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance, as well as seeking medical advice.
