There has been unexpectedly strong demand for holidays to Patagonia in Chile and Argentina to catch the South American summer.

Tour operator Tucan Travel reports it will be adding extra departure dates for its Patagonia Discovery Tours, which offer holidaymakers a chance to enjoy many different outdoor activities offered in the plateaus and plains of the Andes mountain region.

"Visiting Patagonia in the South American summer truly captures the beauty and essence of the region, and there are so many outdoor activities on offer such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, rafting, climbing and trekking," said Rebecca Whiffin of Tucan Travel.

The company believes travellers who have visited South America before in particular are drawn to Patagonia, as they are looking for a more remote and unique destination, as well as a recent drop in the prices of flights.

"Prices of Aerolineas Argentinas flights from Buenos Aires to Patagonia and vice versa have decreased significantly over the past weeks," noted Ms Whiffin.
