Thursday, 01 Feb 2007 14:57
Head for Amsterdam for a fun Valentine's getaway
If you are keen to escape to a European destination this Valentine's Day, but are not keen on breaking the bank on your travel, then opting for a destination served by a low-cost route can give you more to spend when you get there.

With this in mind, low-cost airline Easyjet has come up with its recommendations for the best Valentine's getaways on the continent.

Venice
There a few romantic journeys that can beat a trip on a gondola in Venice. And with so many alleyways, bridges and incredible sights to take in, along with the majesty of the Grand Canal, Venice makes an ideal Valentine’s getaway.

If you are looking for somewhere for a candlelit dinner, then the family-run Vini da Gigio is recommended.

Flights start from £38.98 return with Easyjet. The city is also served by Ryanair.

Berlin
If you are looking for a different kind of Valentine's break, then the contrasts of Berlin's centuries-old grandeur with its more modern side make it a vibrant and exciting destination.

For romantic locations in the city head for the 17th-century Sanssouci Palace, or book tickets for a performance at one of Berlin's opera houses or concert halls.

"Berlin is fast becoming Europe's number one city for museums and the Pergamon Museum with its ancient treasures is certainly worth a visit. It's the perfect destination to keep you busy until the opportunity arises to pop the question," Easyjet explained.

Return flights start from £30.98. The city is also served by Air Berlin.

Madrid
For couples looking to enjoy long nights together hopping from bar to bar, then Madrid is an ideal destination.

The Sol area of the city is one of its most lively to start off your evening, and as it gets later you could go across to Plaza Santa Ana, where your can mingle with the locals until the early hours.

By day there are plenty of museums, cafes, grand squares and monuments to explore, and the city is also works well as a starting point to explore other parts of the region, such as Andalucia.

Easyjet has return flights from £36.98. The destination is also served by Iberia airlines.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam is brimming with romance and excitement, if you know where to go. There are great bars located around every corner, and its restaurants serving Thai, Indonesian and other far-eastern dishes are superb around Nieuwmarkt square.

Other places to look out for are modern galleries such as the Cobra Museum, which currently has a Picasso exhibition.

Return flights with Easyjet cost £43.98. Amsterdam is also served by the Dutch Flyer (rail and sail), and Eurostar.
