Statue of Liberty crown reopens
The crown of the iconic Statue of Liberty in
New York is to reopen for the first time today since the September 11th 2001 terror attacks.
A special ceremony today (July 4th) will feature Broadway star Sasha Allen singing a number from Theresa Wozunk's upcoming new musical "Liberty".
Visitors have been able to enter the base and observation deck of the 122-year-old monument since 2004 but the crown has remained closed because of security fears.
Views of the Manhattan skyline through the eyes of the statue will be enjoyed by only 30 visitors per hour after ascending the narrow spiral staircase.
The venerable New York City attraction is even tweeting about her new lease of life on social networking site twitter (@statuelibrtynps) and giving tips and
e-tours.
Book tickets in advance
online here. Tickets for the crown cost an additional $3 on top of the $12 admission charge to Liberty and Ellis Islands.
