11-year-old dies in ski accident

Friday, 04 Jan 2008 09:01
An 11-year-old boy was killed yesterday in a skiing accident while holidaying with his family at the Breckenridge resort in Colorado.

The boy died after sustaining head injuries following a crash into tree. He had been wearing a helmet at the time, but it was not approved for skiing, reports say.

In a statement a spokesperson for the resort said they "extended their deepest sympathy and support" to the boy's family and friends.

The popular resort receives well over 1.5 million visitors each season, and mostly caters for advanced and intermediate skiers, with only 15 per cent of runs at the resort suitable for beginners.
