New city breaks have been launched celebrating the best of Britain's Asian dishes, ideal for fans of award-winning curry restaurants.

New 'Taste of Asia' short breaks from Leicester Shire Promotions combine the city's Diwali celebrations with Leicester's recent award for being the curry capital of the country.

Holidaymakers will be able to watch cookery demonstrations at Leicester's top Indian restaurants and visit their kitchens, learn about Indian spices and go on a guided walking tour of Belgrave Road - known locally as the Golden Mile.

"Belgrave Road is home to a large array of glittering silk, saree and jewellery boutiques, authentic Indian herb and spice stores, and some of the best Asian restaurants in the country," Leicester's tourist board explained.

The city will be turning on its Diwali lights on Belgrave Road on October 28th 2007, and there will be more festivities, including a fireworks display on November 9th 2007. The break will include a free guided tour on either of the dates.
