Pyramids miss out in New 7 Wonders of the World

Tuesday, 10 Jul 2007 09:11
The Pyramids have missed out in the latest version of the seven wonders of the world following a global vote.

The Pyramids of Giza, in Egypt, were the only wonder still standing from the original Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, put together by Philon of Byzantium in 200 BC, that the competition was based on.

This weekend the New7Wonders organisation revealed Petra in Jordan, the Great Wall of China, the statue of Christ Redeemer in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Roman Coliseum, the temple of Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Taj Mahal in India were the new world wonders.

The competition allowed people to vote online, by telephone and text message for their favourite man-made wonders, and was based on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
