Harry Potter-inspired holidays in a castle

A Harry Potter-inspired holiday in a castle, tower or fortress is a great way of getting away from it all and keeping the family entertained in a unique place.

Whether you are looking for a self catering holiday in the UK, France or Italy, there are lots of different accommodation options available, offering families gripped by Potter-mania a chance to live in their very own Hogwarts.

With this in mind accommodation specialist Holiday-Rentals.co.uk has put together its top properties for families looking for enchantment and mystery from their holiday.

  • Stay in a English Tudor gatehouse

It may not be Alnwick Castle - the real-life Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies - but a turreted Tudor tower in historic Shropshire can certainly give a small family, or those holidaying in larger groups somewhere special to stay.

The Gatehouse, located at Upton Cressett Hall close to the market town of Bridgnorth, has antique furniture, its own towers and has recently been restored.

The property has two double bedrooms that sleep up to four people and is available from £450 per week in October.

For larger families, there is also a medieval barn at Upton Cressett Hall, sleeping up to eight people across four double bedrooms.

It may not have the towers, but the barn does offer some Hogwarts charm thanks to its tall oak-beamed ceilings and large galleried dining hall.

Prices start from £750 per week in October.

  • Head to an Italian fortress

If you want the historic charm of a castle but without the changeable and rainy English weather, heading to an Italian fortress is a fantastic compromise.

Once a medieval defence tower, San Francesco near Viterbo in Tuscia is a rural fortress in a region of Italy that offers easy access Rome, Florence and Siena.

The property has seven bedrooms and sleeps up to 16.
